Government approves payment of professional allowance to teachers

Accra, May 20, GNA – Government has approved the payment of professional allowance to all certificated professional teachers in the Ghana Education Service. A communiqu=E9 issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by Mrs Irene Duncan-Adanusa, General Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teache= rs, said the allowance which was 15 per cent of the basic monthly salary, too= k effect from January, 2010. It said the initial payment would be made at the end of June, 2010 whilst the arrears would be paid in two phases – July and October, 2010. The communiqu=E9 said the other allowances – deprived areas, science= , mathematics, ICT, technical and vocational, supervisory allowances would be considered within the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy. It said more information would be communicated to teachers on the re= st of the salary negotiations as and when available.
