The Gomoa West District Assembly has put in place measures to reverse the poor results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the District over the past two years.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Theophilous Aidoo-Mensah, said this at a parade of school children at Apam to mark the 55th Independence Anniversary of Ghana.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the Assembly had released funds to the District Ghana Education Service (GES) to organise mock examinations and extra classes for JHS Three Candidates who would be writing their final examination next month.
He expressed worry about the falling standard of education in the District and said none of the candidates who took part in last year’s BECE from eight schools scored between aggregates six and 36 to qualify for placement in a senior high school.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah described the situation as worrisome and unacceptable and appealed to both parents and teachers to do a lot more to reverse the situation.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah urged parents to restrain their children under 18 years from unlawful practices during the impending registration exercise.
“Young people are full of life and should not allow themselves to be manipulated by politicians to cause trouble before, during and after the 2012 general elections,” he said.
The Chief of Apam, Nana Edu Effrim X, who chaired the function, called on the citizens to be vigilant and expose criminals who have been stealing electricity cables that sometimes result power disruption in the area.
