Apam (C/R), Aug. 25, GNA – Contributors to the Gomoaman Health Insurance Scheme, could access free medical care, six months after the inauguration of the facility. The Coordinator of the Scheme, Dr Theophilus Koomson, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency, at Apam said the grace period was required to enable the fund grow.
Dr Koomson said personnel tasked to manage the Scheme had been trained and issued with registration materials for the collection of premium. He said the 200 communities, in the Gomoa District, had been zoned into 11 to facilitate easy collection of the premium. The communities have also been sensitised on the payment of the premium.
The Coordinator said a minimum amount of 72,000 cedis could be settled by six monthly instalments. Dr Koomson cautioned the collectors, that they would be prosecuted if they misappropriated the funds. He said appealed to the Ministry of health to make money available for the purchase of office equipment and the training of the Scheme Managers.
Dr Koomson said the 100 million cedis allocated for the establishment of the secretariat to manage the scheme was meagre. He said the District would start the scheme by September this year if enough money was made available.
