Gomoa Adaa (C/R), Aug 17, GNA – The chiefs and the people of Gomoa Adaa have launched a 10,000-Ghana cedi Education Endowment Fund to support
needy but brilliant students. Nana Okotwere Bekoe IV, chief of the town, launched the fund at the annual celebration of “Ahorbaa Kese” festival at Adaa on Saturday. He said the fund had become necessary since most of the junior high school students who completed school could not pursue secondary and tertiary education
because their parents could not afford. He said as chief of the town he had donated 1,000 Ghana cedis as seed money to start the fund, adding that they would also organize fund raising harvests and
would appeal to corporate bodies and other donor agencies to contribute to the fund. Nana Okotwere Bekoe said a yearly development levy of between two and five Ghana cedis would also be imposed on citizens at home and outside the town. He expressed regret at the poor results recorded at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in recent times and appealed to teachers and parents to
collaborate to ensure that JHS students produce quality results to assist them to pursue higher education. Nana Okotwere Bekoe said the Gomoa Adaa Technical and Vocational Training Institute in the area serving over 50 communities lacked hostels and classrooms
and appealed to the government to assist. He said the community and the Parent/Teacher Association of the institute had been able to provide some assistance but a lot needed to be done. Nana Paintsiwaah Panyin, Queen Mother of Adaa, said teenage pregnancy had reduced because the chiefs had enacted bye-laws to check the menace.
