Goldman Sachs selects UPSA student for London internship

Global investment banking firm Goldman Sachs has selected Israel Koranteng, a student of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) to participate in its 2015 Spring Internship Programme.

The Goldman Sachs Spring Internship Program is designed to allow excellent undergraduate students gain insights into working at the highest levels of the global securities and investment management industry.

It is the first time a student from the UPSA has been successful in the recruitment process for one of the world’s largest investment banks since it started recruiting from Ghana.

Mr. Koranteng who is a final year Business Administration major student, competed with students from all tertiary institutions in Ghana through a series of aptitude tests and interviews. He, together with eight (8) other students from Ashesi, KNUST, University of Ghana and other bright students from around the world, will be flown to London to spend two weeks with the company. They are expected to gain key insight into the nature of work in the different divisions of Goldman Sachs.

The programme will have the students participate in seminars, presentations, exciting group assignments and will give them an opportunity to meet top business leaders in London.

“I am excited to have been selected for the Internship programme. It provides a platform for me to learn, network and begin a successful career” said Israel. “My selection also demonstrates that UPSA is producing top-class graduates that can compete at all levels in the professional world,” he added.

“For us, this comes as no surprise; we believe Israel’s recent international experience as a participant in a summer exchange programme hosted by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea seemed to have propelled him into a star student of the UPSA. So we expect him to distinguish himself in London on this unique opportunity made possible by Goldman Sachs”, said the University’s Public Relations & Communications Advisor, James Afedo.

Goldman Sachs is a global investment-banking firm, and offers diverse financial services to a wide client base. Candidates who apply to the firm are evaluated on the core measures of leadership, analytical thinking, teamwork, commercial focus achievement and the ability to make an impact.
