Goldfields Support Projects in Wassa West district.

Huniso, (W/R), August 10, GNA- Tarkwa Goldfieds Limited, a mining company operating in the Wassa West District has began the rehabilitation of the eight- kilometer Huniso-Pepesa road at a cost of 250 million cedis.

The company is also spending 114.2 million cedis to procure 95 low- tension poles for electrification projects at Samahu and Huniso. Mr. Daniel Oscar Kwarteng, assembly member for Huniso told the Ghana News Agency at Huniso on Friday that, the company’s gesture was in response to an appeal for support for on-going development projects in the area.

He expressed gratitude to the company and hoped other mining companies in the area would emulate Tarkwa Goldfieds Limited to improve the socio-economic activities of the people.

In another development, the Ghana Water Company Limited is proving potable water for four communities in the Kofigyan electoral area, also in the Wassa West District.

Mr. Jonas Damoah, assembly member for the area mentioned Akotom, Afamasi, Huniano and Kofigyan as the beneficiary communities. He said the European Union is financing the provision of electricity for Awudua -Nkwanta, Gordon, Yareyeya and Shamhu.

Mr. Damoah said the people of Akotom have embarked on a 45 million cedis community centre project through contributions of 50,000 cedis a man and 20,000 cedis a woman.

Mr. Albert k. Obbiri, a member of parliament for the area had provided 20 bags of cement, four packets of roofing sheets and a quantity of iron rods towards the completion of the project.
