GNUPS, Oguaaman congratulate Mills

Accra, Jan. 5, GNA – The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) on Monday congratulated President-elect John Evans Atta Mills and his competitor on the 2008 presidential race, Nana Akufo-Addo, for their

“high sense of leadership qualities” during the election.

“The peace we are enjoying at this moment can be attributed to the sense of nationalism they both exhibited by putting Ghana first,” it said in a statement signed by Fueini Sugri, Public Relations Officer. GNUPS also congratulated the Electoral Commission for “the excellent and professional manner in which it conducted this year’s election” and the security agencies for their “professionalism and neutrality”. The union, however, condemned “the pockets of violence recorded in Ashanti and Volta regions” and expressed the hope that the shortcomings recorded would be corrected in subsequent elections. In another message, the Oguaaman Union congratulated Prof. Mills, who is their patron, for his electoral victory. “We pray that this onerous responsibility will be guided by pearls of wisdom from (God), who has given you this day through the good people of Ghana.”
