GMA refers final decision on strike to members

The National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has referred the final decision on their current strike action to an extra-ordinary general assembly of the Association scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2015.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Association at the end of it’s Fourth National Executive meeting for this year at Koforidua on Tuesday.

The release which was signed by the National President of the Association, Dr Kwame Opoku-Adusei and the General Secretary, Dr Frank Serebour condemned the release of 14 House Officers to the Ghana Medical and Dental Council by the Techiman Holy Family Hospital for reposting for their participation in trade union activities.

The GMA urged health institutions to stop such practices and warned that in future, it may be forced to take appropriate action against such institutions.

The release called on members of the GMA to remain calm and steadfast in the current situation the Association found itself.

On July 29, 2015, the GMA called for a general strike to back its demand for improved conditions of service.

The Association called on its members to withdraw Out Patient services, but they also withdrew emergency medical service to their clients too later.
