Girl, 20, sedates men for robbery

A 20-year-old lady, together with her boyfriend, has been arrested by the Sakumono district police in connection with a series of car robberies that had been occurring in Sakumono and its environs.

Abigail Asiedu, alias Fatima Abiba Adamu, and Bashiru Ishmael, 24, who both reside at Adogonor, a suburb of Nungua in Accra, are cooling off in the cells of the police for allegedly sedating and robbing men who sent Fatima to hotels for sexual gratification.

The suspects were said to have conspired and robbed not less than three people of their cars at various hotels the lady sent her clients and victims to.

After every criminal expedition, the suspects were said to have sold the cars to their agents in Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region at cheaper prices after forging documents for all the cars with the assistance of some persons at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

Police also retrieved forged car documents and rubber stamps of DVLA, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and that of Customs from the suspects.

They allegedly used the fake documents to re-register and register unregistered cars they robbed from their victims before selling them out after rebranding the cars.

Chief Superintendent Alex K. Wowolo, the Commander of the Sakumono District Police, told DAILY GUIDE that victims of the criminals met the lady around Sakumono and proposed love to her and took her to various hotels, where the lady sedated them and stole their car keys which she gave to her boyfriend to drive away the cars.

He explained that the police, who are leaving no stone unturned to come to the bottom of the robbery menace in the Sakumono area, began investigations into the lady’s case after a report was made somewhere in January 2015 by a man who reported that he had been robbed of his Toyota Camry by a lady.

Soon after the complaint, he noted, another man came with a similar report of being robbed of his Toyota Corolla by a lady he sent to a hotel around Klagon in the Tema West Constituency.

According to him, before police could conclude investigations into both cases, a third victim came with the same complaint that his Honda car was stolen at a hotel when he went there to have pleasure with the lady.

The district police commander said that a police extract was issued to the Honda owner to be sent to DVLA in order to prevent anyone from registering a vehicle with such particulars.

He added that luck, however, eluded the suspects when the victim called at the DVLA office in Accra to submit the extract. According to the commander, the victim spotted a similar brand of his car entering the 37 DVLA yard in Accra but that it had been rebranded.

The police boss said the victim became curious and decided to approach the driver. He said before the victim could get closer to the car, Fatima, upon seeing the victim, alighted from the car and took to her heels but Bashiru was immediately accosted with the car.

Following a tipoff, Fatima was later arrested at her hideout at Adogonor.

According to the commander, investigations into the cases revealed that the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Camry had each been sold at an amount of Ghc15,000.

He said investigations were almost concluded and that the suspects would be arraigned before court to face the full rigors of the law.
