The Ghana International Airlines (GIA) has joined the list of airlines operating in the country who have cancelled flights to and from the United Kingdom due to the ash of a volcanic eruption.
The British Airways first announced such cancellations followed by KLM and then Lufthansa. The Ghana International Airlines also said passengers expected from the UK on Thursday, April 15, have rebooked to fly to Accra on Saturday, April 17.
The GIA’s Chief Executive, Gifty Annan Myers in an interview with Citi Business said their flight scheduled to leave Accra to the UK on, Friday, April 16 is also currently on hold until further notice.
She noted that they are receiving regular updates from the United Kingdom which would inform their next line of action.
Citi Business sources at the European Air Traffic Control Organization have hinted that the flight disruption could last for another 48hours.
Gifty Anna-Myers of the GIA however said they are closely monitoring the situation and would keep their passengers informed.
According to her, “flight number GO102 which is operating out of guttering this season has been canceled and all passengers for that flight have rebooked to Saturday, April 17 morning’s flight because by that time there would be more information on what is happening from the UK.”
“as at now nobody knows when the situation would be lifted but there are periodic updates which we are going to monitor and determine our next line of action…passengers booked to travel with Ghana International Airlines are requested to check if their flight is not canceled before proceeding to the airport.”
