Ghana’s next phase of economic transformation must focus on creating decent, productive employment for young people, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has said.
Dr. Forson made the comments after taking part in a New Economy engagement with academics, researchers and students at the University for Development Studies’ Nyankpala Campus.
He described the discussion as “deeply successful and inspiring”, saying it had reinforced the need to put employment and productivity at the centre of Ghana’s development plans.
“Yesterday’s New Economy engagement with distinguished academics, researchers and students of the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala Campus, was deeply successful and inspiring,” he said.
According to the Finance Minister, the New Economy agenda is intended to take Ghana beyond economic stabilisation by prioritising jobs, productivity and shared prosperity.
“The NEW ECONOMY must create jobs at scale: decent, productive jobs that give young people a real stake in Ghana’s future,” Dr. Forson stated.
He said the engagement with the UDS community highlighted the importance of building an economy that reflects the ambitions of Ghana’s young people.
That economy, he added, must support enterprise, widen access to opportunities and provide clear routes into meaningful work.
Dr. Forson said the New Economy discussion extended beyond policymaking. Its broader purpose, he noted, was to help shape a future in which Ghanaian youth could play a full role in the country’s economic growth.
