Ghana’s Health Delivery System has been ranked the 153rd most efficient in the world . Even though the position implies that Ghana’s health system is not one of the best in the world, the country is way ahead of many African economic giants like South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda and Botswana.

Ghana’s position rates it the 19th country in Africa with the most effieciently managed health system.

Morocco was named as the Country with the most efficient health system in Africa followed by Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Cape Verde. Nigeria occupies the 35th position, South Africa ranks 42nd.

Zimbabwe’s 51st position in Africa, makes it the country with the worst health system in the world.

The Sultanate Oman is rated the country with the world’s most efficient health system.

The second most efficient health system is that of Malta while Italy follows closely in the third position.

The WHO’s table, compiled by its Global Program on Evidence for Health Policy, contained a number of surprises. France was ranked 4th, but Britain came in 24th and the United States well down the list, in the 72nd spot.

The researchers looked at trends in the years between 1993 and 1997,and basically, measured the life expectancy in the 191 countries surveyed against the amount of resources spent per population head.
