Ghana’s economic activity grew by 7.4% in July 2026, compared with 4.9% in the same month a year earlier, although growth in the agriculture sector slowed sharply, Government Statistician Dr Alhassan Iddrisu said.
Agriculture expanded by 3.7%, down from 8.2% a year earlier. Despite the slowdown, the sector continued to grow, while services and industry recorded stronger performances than in July 2025.
Services increased by 12.2%, compared with 6.7% a year earlier, while industry rose to 5.4% from 0.4%.

“7.4%: That’s how fast Ghana’s economy grew in July 2026, up from 4.9% a year earlier,” Dr Alhassan said at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, October 15.
Services accounted for almost two-thirds of the overall expansion, with information and communication the main contributor. The sector was responsible for 63.8% of Ghana’s 7.4% growth in July 2026.
Industry contributed 20.5%, driven by mining and quarrying, while agriculture accounted for 14.1%, led by crops and livestock. Net taxes made up the remaining 1.6%.
Dr Iddrisu explained the figures by saying that, after removing the effect of inflation, Ghana produced about GH$107.40 of goods and services in July 2026 for every GHC100 produced in July the previous year.
In a statement outlining the figures, he said the latest results showed that services and industry had accelerated over the past year, while agriculture remained on a positive trajectory at a slower rate.
“Numbers only create value when they are used,” Dr Iddrisu said.
He added that the complete MIEG series, covering the period from January 2023 to July 2026, was available free of charge on the GSS website and StatsBank.
“Policymakers, businesses, researchers, students, partners and households: use it and hold us to it. The next release will be in the second week of November 2026,” he said.
