Dr Angsongna B. Claudius, known as Dr ABC, has filed his nomination to become Deputy Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region, promising scholarships for 44 young people, employment opportunities and stronger party structures.
The nomination was submitted on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. Dr ABC said his central aim was to reorganise the party from the grassroots and mobilise members to retain political power in the 2028 general elections.
If elected, he said he would support at least one person from each of the region’s 11 constituencies every year to pursue tertiary education. Over a proposed four-year term, the scheme would benefit 44 people.
The scholarships would cover first-degree, master’s and PhD programmes. Dr ABC said the initiative was rooted in his own experience of receiving scholarship support, as well as his efforts to help colleagues obtain financial assistance for their studies.
He also pledged to provide NDC constituency offices with printers, scanners, photocopiers, internet access and refrigerators. His intention, he said, was to turn the offices into fully functioning secretariats that could support party members and provide services to people in surrounding communities.
The facilities would also create jobs for young people responsible for managing them. Dr ABC said party leadership should not be limited to mobilising supporters for rallies, but should also contribute to improving their livelihoods.
In addition, he promised to lobby for employment opportunities for qualified young people, citing his previous role in helping colleagues secure jobs.
Dr ABC said his professional and leadership background supported his bid for the position. He previously served as District Director of Veterinary Services and was president of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) at both the University for Development Studies (UDS) and the University of Ghana.
He also pointed to his membership of the University of Ghana Council and his service as an NDC student executive at the UDS Nyankpala campus. Those positions, he said, had given him experience in leading diverse groups and working with experienced professionals.
He said that background had prepared him to contribute to the effective administration of the NDC and collaborate with people from different backgrounds.
Dr ABC further rejected factional politics and pledged to work with whoever is elected NDC Regional Secretary, irrespective of internal party alliances.
“I am ready to work with anybody who happens to be the regional secretary, and I am not going to be like I am aligned with any group,” he said.
He called on contestants to campaign on their policies and allow delegates to make the final choice. Unity after the internal elections, he added, would be essential to the party’s prospects.
His stated priorities are grassroots mobilisation, improved organisational structures, wider access to education and job creation for young people as the NDC prepares for the 2028 elections.
