Ghana’s Black Maidens fight back to draw 3-3 with Brazil at U-17 Women’s World Cup

Ghana’s Black Maidens came from behind twice to draw 3-3 with Brazil in a six-goal Group C thriller at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

Brazil took the lead on Wednesday, October 21, but Ghana turned the game around before half-time. Rafia equalised in the 31st minute, and Gloria Ameaa put the Black Maidens in front four minutes later.

Brazil responded before the interval, scoring in the 44th minute to send the teams into the break level at 2-2.

The Brazilian side moved ahead again in the 57th minute, leaving Ghana facing another fight to recover. Cynthia appeared to have restored parity in the 76th minute, but her goal was ruled out.

Ghana continued to press and were rewarded five minutes from time when Priscilla Mensah scored in the 85th minute to secure a valuable point.

The result maintains Ghana’s unbeaten record against Brazil in their two meetings at the U-17 Women’s World Cup. The Black Maidens won the previous encounter 1-0 in 2010.

Ghana’s point comes after they opened their campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Norway. They have one point from their first two matches.

In the other Group C fixture, Canada defeated Norway 3-2, leaving the group standings finely balanced before the final round of games.

Ghana now sit bottom of Group C and will face Canada in their final group match. They need a strong result to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

Although the Black Maidens made a difficult start to the tournament, their recovery against Brazil gives them renewed belief before what could be a decisive meeting with the Canadians.
