Ghanaians urged to promote peace

Akyem Oda, May 6, GNA – Assistant Commissioner of Police Ben Atadana, the Akyem Oda Police Divisional Commander, has appealed to Ghanaians to promote goodwill among the different classes, ethnic groups and religious persuasions.

“We must at all time resort to legal processes in addressing issues and differences other than using jungle life processes”. Mr Atadana, who is retiring after 38 years service and was speaking at his send-off party at Akyem Oda, said Rule of Law was the cardinal principle of all democratic governments. He reminded members of the security services that professionalism and ethics of the services are non-negotiable requirements in acceptable service delivery at all times. Mr Atadana advised the young ones in the service to be disciplined and be prepared to learn good things from their seniors. He appealed to the public to co-operate fully with the security services, saying “You are all equal partners in the fight against social vices”.

Osabarima Owusu Gyamadu, a member of the Council of State, commended Mr Atadana for his good leadership qualities and urged other police officers to emulate him. He made mention of his efforts to help solve numerous chieftaincy disputes in the area, which he said was worthy of commendation. Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, said it was not easy to join the security services and come out successfully after 38 years and that Mr Atadana epitomized the excellence of a good officer. He urged the public to disregard the erroneous impression that the police institution is corrupt. Mr David Frempong, Akyem Oda District Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, appealed to Mr Atadana to put his rich experience at the disposal of young police officers.
