Ghanaians urged to ensure environmental cleanliness

Winneba, April 27, GNA – Mr Yakubu Barry, the Chairman of the Winneba Concerned Citizens Association, has called on Ghanaians to ensure environmental cleanliness to avoid the outbreak of diseases. Mr Barry said many diseases that people spend money and time to cure could have been avoided if they had ensured environmental cleanliness.

He said this when addressing a large number of people on Tuesday after undertaking a-five hour communal labour at Winneba. They swept the beach and de-silted gutters.

The association, in conjunction with the three assembly members of the area and the Apofohene Neenyi Mbri, organized and led the exercise that was attended by over 200 people.

Mr Barry said a ban had been imposed on using the beach as a place of convenience and that anybody caught would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

He appealed to the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to speed up the construction of a KVIP at the beach that is about 90 percent complete to ease pressure on the only toilet at the beach. He said that two persons who refused to participate in the exercise would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
