Ghana’s government will not accept fresh applications to join the country’s security services in 2027, as it gives priority to candidates who have already completed the recruitment process.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak confirmed the decision on Tuesday, October 20, while appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
He said the suspension followed a directive from President John Dramani Mahama and was designed to address a backlog of qualified applicants who had been unable to secure places on training programmes.
The recruitment portal will therefore remain closed to new applicants next year. Instead, the government will continue selecting candidates from the existing pool until all eligible applicants have been considered.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” Mr Muntaka said.
The minister explained that the affected candidates had applied, passed the required stages and been approved for training, but had not been admitted because there were not enough available places.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick,” he added.
The government will continue working through that list before allowing another recruitment exercise to begin.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed,” Mr Muntaka stated.
The decision means people who had intended to apply to Ghana’s security services in 2027 will have to wait. New applications will only be accepted after the backlog of qualified candidates has been cleared.
