Ghana to celebrate the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity

Accra, May, 18, GNA – Ghana would join the international community to celebrate the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity (IYB), which falls on May 22.

IYB is a global campaign designed to encourage worldwide action to safeguard biodiversity.

A statement signed and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra by the Convention on Biological Diversity Secretariat in Canada, said the event would enhance public awareness about the importance of safeguarding and underlying the threats to biodiversity.

The event among other things sought to raise awareness about the accomplishments to save biodiversity to encourage individuals, organisations and governments to take steps needed to halt the trend globally. The statement said the event would serve as a common platform to enable stakeholders to share ideas on how to address and promote innovative ways to reduce threats to biodiversity. 18 May 10
