Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has assured Ghanaians that the country remains safe and secure, while pledging that the Government will continue working to protect and improve security nationwide.
Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM, the minister provided an update on the achievements of the Ministry of the Interior and outlined a range of measures aimed at maintaining public safety.
Muntaka said the Government would sustain its efforts to strengthen security across the country. His comments covered the broader security situation, border protection and the work being undertaken to address threats to national safety.
He also discussed the Gun Amnesty Programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, the electronic visa platform and NCABIS. Recruitment into the security services was among the other issues addressed during the appearance.
The minister further referred to the unauthorised use of sirens and other road traffic offences, highlighting the range of responsibilities handled by the Ministry of the Interior.
On the Government’s response to drug trafficking, Muntaka said drug-related matters were being treated seriously. He added that the authorities would continue working with foreign security agencies to tackle the problem.
The minister described drug trafficking as a complex issue that could not be addressed effectively without international cooperation. He stressed the importance of collaboration between Ghanaian authorities and counterparts in other countries in confronting the threat.
Muntaka also urged members of the public to play an active role in supporting the security services. He called on Ghanaians to provide credible information about suspicious activities and to cooperate with officers carrying out their duties.
He further reminded the public of the need to obey the law, saying cooperation with security personnel and compliance with legal requirements were important in maintaining the country’s security.
The assurance comes as the Ministry continues to address issues ranging from border security and weapons control to road traffic enforcement, immigration systems, recruitment and the fight against narcotics.
Muntaka’s Joy FM appearance was intended to update the public on the ministry’s work and reassure Ghanaians that measures were continuing to maintain and improve security across the country.
