Ghana Post to launch jubilee stamps

Kumasi, Feb 19, GNA – Ghana Post (GP) will launch specially designed philatelic stamps on March five in commemoration of the country’s Golden Jubilee independence celebration.

Mr. Yaw Addo-Larbi, an official of the company, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the stamps highlight Ghana’s greatness and achievements and are not only meant for posting of letters but could also serve as precious souvenirs or relics of Ghana’s 50th Golden Jubilee independence anniversary celebration.

According to Mr Addo-Larbi, the new stamps would attract normal charges.

He explained that recent increases in post charges had become necessary due to the rising cost in the company’s operations both home and abroad.

These include the cost of transporting local mails, lifting of parcels by international airlines, among others. He said GP had plans to computerize operations at its counters to improve efficiency and also minimise waiting time of customers. Mr. Addo-Larbi said more branches would be opened while the number of letterboxes would also be increased to meet rising demands.
