The services of Ghanaian police officers are in high demand following their outstanding performance during United Nations operations, Nana Owusu Nsiah, the Inspector-General of Police has disclosed.
He said letters had been received from the Sudan, the Ivory Coast and other countries requesting the services of the nation?s police.
Nana Owusu Nsiah was addressing newsmen at the Tesano police barracks, in Accra, which he visited yesterday to inspect damage caused by a rainstorm on New Year?s Day and to sympathize with the victims of the disaster.
Some of the buildings had their roofs ripped off by the storm, rendering some of the police homeless.
The IGP announced that the police administration had started the recruitment of personnel called ?escorts? to do foot patrols and guard duties. He said the Service would soon start exchange programmes with some countries to broaden the horizon of the personnel.
Touching on motivation, Nana Owusu Nsiah said the police administration would reactivate the Service?s endowment fund to enhance the welfare of personnel and raise their morale.
He said the programme to provide the Service with modern communication equipment to make the Service more effective, is on course.
