Vincent Ekow Assafuah has criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA), claiming its leadership has failed to add value to the country’s football and should consider resigning.
The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports was speaking after Ghana’s 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In an exclusive interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Mr Assafuah said the result had highlighted wider concerns about how Ghana football is being administered.
“I would say it is a shame because their existence has not added anything to Ghana football. Their existence is making Ghana football shameful.”
He questioned whether officials responsible for running the game understood the public responsibility attached to their positions.
Mr Assafuah said those who believed they had failed to meet those responsibilities should step aside without waiting for pressure from Parliament’s sports leadership.
“In proper jurisdictions, people who understand what shame is and appreciate the responsibility that comes with public office would resign. It does not have to come from the Ranking Member for Youth and Sports. If they understand what shame is and understand what public responsibility means, then they should do what is expected of them.”
He added that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports would continue to demand explanations if the officials did not resign.
“But if they do not, we will continue to ask the questions that need to be asked of them.”
The comments follow renewed scrutiny of the GFA and the Black Stars after Ghana conceded four goals against The Gambia.
That defeat has intensified debate over the direction of Ghana football and the performance of those responsible for its administration.
