Ghana Fashion Weekend 2009 ends

Accra, July 5, GNA – The Ghana Fashion Weekend (GFW) 2009 which showcased some of the best talents in the Ghanaian as well as African fashion industry ended on Saturday night in Accra.

The event featured about 30 designers from all over the world, as well as 100 Exopa Models, 40 of whom came from Germany, UK, France, Venezuela and the United States and treated the audience to the best of the catwalk experience amidst colour, style, splendour and glamour. Organized by the Exopa Model Agency, the event, under the auspices of the ministries of Tourism and Trade and Industry, was a blend of modelling shows in addition to a four-day fashion exhibition which ran concurrently at the Accra International Conference Centre from July 1-4. This industry-focused event was also to explore, boost interest and attract investments into the fashion industry in addition to offering corporate firms the opportunity to showcase their products.

Mr Boris Kodjoe, a German-Ghanaian Hollywood star of show time drama, “Soul Food”, who was the Star Guest for the GFW 2009, called on the corporate world to support the fashion industry.

Mr Kodjoe who made an appearance for the first time with his Ziami Clothing Line and drew wild cheers from the anxious crowd who gathered to witness the show said fashion could boost the country’s tourism potential which would stimulate growth in the economy.

He said fashion was all about creativity, adding that, industry players needed to be supported to continue to come out with new designs and trends to suit all.

Mr Ibrahim Sima, Chief Executive Officer of the Exopa Model Agency and Director of the GFW 2009 thanked all who made it possible for the show to take place.

Mr Sima said due to lack of sponsorship and support, he, at a point, doubted whether the show could end successfully as it did. He promised that the GFW would return next year in a much better and appealing style.

This year’s event, second in a series, was sponsored by Dark and Lovely, Vlisco, Jandel Limited, Da Viva, FC Beauty Klinik, Coca Cola, Lufthansa, MTN, Alisa Hotel and East Gate Hotel.
