Ghana Donates 40 Metric Tonnes of Cocoa Products to Palestine in Show of Solidarity

The government of Ghana has extended a hand of solidarity to the people of Palestine, donating humanitarian aid to ease the suffering of victims of the ongoing conflict.

President John Dramani Mahama presented 40 metric tonnes of premium Ghana-made chocolate and other cocoa products to the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The presentation, made to Ambassador Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Sattari, underscores Ghana’s long-standing ties with Palestine and reflects what the Presidency describes as a gesture of compassion and friendship.

The donation included Golden Tree chocolates and other cocoa-based products, chosen to bring nourishment and comfort to families enduring hardship in Gaza.

President Mahama explained that cocoa, one of Ghana’s most cherished natural resources, was selected because it represents the country’s values of resilience, warmth, and generosity.

“This gesture is meant to bring some comfort and to serve as a tangible expression of Ghana’s solidarity with the people of Palestine.”

He noted, “Cocoa is also a powerful superfood, packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and essential minerals. We hope it will bring nourishment and comfort to families enduring unimaginable hardship in Gaza.”

The President further underscored the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Palestine, recalling the opening of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s office in Accra in 1986.

He also referenced recent diplomatic engagements, including the visit of Dr. Mahmoud Siddiqui al-Habash, Chief Justice and Advisor on Religious Affairs to the Palestinian President.

Ambassador Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Sattari expressed deep gratitude, noting that the donation would make a meaningful difference, particularly for children and women facing starvation.

“This will go a long way to improve the nutrition of children and women in Gaza and provide hope in these difficult times.”

He said one could not imagine the joy that would be brought to children in Gaza when they see the chocolate products, let alone how they will feel when they taste them.

“If this chocolate arrives in Gaza, and it will arrive, and our people only see the chocolate, you cannot imagine how happy they will be, and you can’t imagine how much more than happy they will be when they eat,” he said.

He noted that for the past two years, people in Gaza had been starving due to the blockade of aid amid the escalating conflict with Israel.

The donation was facilitated by the Ghana Cocoa Board and the Cocoa Processing Company, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
