Ghana Commercial Bank builds kindergarten

A GH¢40,000.00 kindergarten block built at Fawoman, a predominantly cocoa farming community in the Ahafo-Ano South District to promote pre-school education, has been inaugurated at a ceremony.

It has facilities for classrooms, office, store, sleeping and washrooms and fully equipped with furniture, teaching and learning aids.

The project was financed by the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Simon Dornoo, the Managing Director, performing the inauguration amid the outpouring of joy by the people, said it was the Bank’s 60th anniversary gift to the community.

It had effectively ended the situation where classes were held in a weak and dilapidated structure built to serve as a junior high school workshop in 1987.

The new block, which provides a child-friendly environment, he noted, would motivate parents to put their kids in school.

Mr. Dornoo said being a good corporate citizen it would continue to assist bring development to the people.

He put the Bank’s total disbursements, last year, in support of community-related development activities at GH¢206 million and said over GH¢2 million of the money went into education.

Mr. John Oscar Kintor, the District Director of Education, hailed the project as a welcome relief and urged parents to make sure that all children of school going-age enrolled.

They should put premium on education, he said, adding that, it was the best investment they could think of in terms of the future security of their young ones.

Mr. Gabriel Barima, the District Chief Executive (DCE), gave high marks to GCB for the facility and urged the people to show ownership of the project by helping to keep the structure in good shape at all times.

Nana Boakye Ampofo, the Chief, appealed to GCB to consider assisting brilliant but needy pupils in the area with scholarships.
