Ghana and Liberia hold joint parliament

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA – Parliament would on Thursday hold a day’s sitting in honour of the visiting Liberian Parliamentarians of the National Assembly of Liberia.

The Liberians are on a four-day orientation course as part of their preparation to return to democratic governance after several years of protracted armed conflict that left millions dead.

The sitting, to be jointly chaired by the Speaker s of both Houses, would expose the Liberian Parliamentarians to the practical aspects of the legislative process of Ghana’s Parliament. Mr Jones Kugblenu, Director of Public Affairs, Office of Parliament in a signed statement, said the members would be taken through the duties and responsibilities of an MP, the importance of the Committee System in Parliament and the Rules and Procedures of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The Speaker of Parliament entreated MPs within Accra to attend the sitting at 1400 hours.
