Adugyama (Ash), Jan 9, GNA – Nana Yaw Adiyaa, regent of Adugyama in the Ahafo-Ano South District of Ashanti has appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to construct speed ramps on the main Kumasi-Sunyani road to prevent the rampant knocking down of pedestrians in towns along the highway.
He said, drivers plying the road had been driving above the speed limit and have been killing innocent pedestrians since the road was rehabilitated.
Nana Adiyaa made the call when Mr Stephen Kwaku Balado Manu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency toured the area to interact with the people to know of their problems and how best to resolve them. The tour also enabled the MP to brief them on the government’s development programmes and also to explain some policies to them. The regent expressed concern about the low voltage of the electrical transformer in the town, which he said was not helping in the establishment of cottage industries.
He urged the government to initiate pragmatic programmes to give maize and other food growers ready markets to avoid post harvest losses, which more often than not demoralised farmers.
Mr Balado Manu said he was prepared to use part of his MP’s Common Fund to provide them with their felt-needs, calling on them to ensure peace in the town as no development comes without peace and stability.
He informed them of the impending 50th anniversary celebration of the nation’s independence and urged them to contribute their quota to ensure the success of a historic celebration of the event. The MP explained the rationale behind the re-denomination of the cedi and said it was not devaluation of the currency as was being erroneously perceived by some people.
Mr Joseph Agyeman Dapaah, Chairman of the Ahafo-Ano South Constituency branch of the New Patriotic party (NPP) said he would work hard to get what they deserved from the central government and the District Assembly.
