Gh@60 must be ‘modest’ but ‘elegant’ – Akufo-Addo

The Gh@60 celebration must be “modest” yet “elegant”, President Nana Akufo-Addo has said.

Launching the anniversary committee at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, 26 January, Mr Akufo-Addo said: “The celebration of our 60th anniversary should be modest, it should take into account our financial circumstances but it also should be elegant and appropriate, we should live in a good feeling about ourselves.”

Ghana turns 60 on March 7, the day it got independence from Britain in 1957.

Mr Akufo-Addo said: “No matter the diversity of opinions and the diversity of origins, we are all fully paid-up members of the Ghana project and these celebrations should advance that sense of unity and oneness among us.

“So I have decided that we should have the Planning Committee to begin work today, 26th of January, towards the anniversary, which is some six or seven weeks away, a very short period of time.”

Mr Akufo-Addo named Mr Ken Amankwa as chairman for the anniversary planning committee. Mr Amankwa will be supported by Samuel Abu Jinapor as vice chair. The committee has been tasked with drawing up activities to mark the celebration.
