GH¢24 million Aboabo/Susan upgrading to take off on October 1

Kumasi, Sept.9, GNA – The GH¢ 24 million community infrastructure upgrading and Aboabo/Susan storm drainage improvement works in Kumasi is to begin on October 1, this year. The project is part of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) Second Urban Environmental Sanitation Project (UESP) II, and aims at improving the living conditions of people along the Aboabo/Susan stream including Anloga, Asokwa, Ahinsan and Atonsu. An Israeli firm, Rolider Limited and Aya Construction of Ghana have been awarded the job.

Presenting the drawings of the project to the contractors in Kumasi, Mr Anthony Mensah, the Project’s Coordinator, said it would take two years to complete and that the Agence Francaise de Developement is providing the funding.

Under this, a-3.5 kilometre stretch of the Aboabo/Susan stream would be dredged and the drain from Anloga junction to the Atonsu-lake-road improved with concrete lining.

Mr. Mensah, who is also the Head of the Waste Management Department of the KMA, said additionally there would be an extension of access roads, construction of roadside drains, improvement of water supply and lighting systems, and the provision of solid waste collection points. Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly would demand a good job, and urged contractors to work hard to ensure that the project was completed on schedule. Mr.Lior Felsenstein, a representative of the contracting firm assured the MCE of an excellent job. The MCE later inspected the on-going Sofoline interchange project.
