Get rich quick mallam arrested

Police in Tamale have arrested an alleged fraudster barely a week after a similar arrest was made involving a self-acclaimed Mallam who defrauded several persons thousands of Ghana Cedis under the guise of enriching them.

Shaibu Mohammed, alias Nunu, 19, currently in police detention, was reported to have ganged up with a colleague only identified as Mallam Ode Dollars, to swindle one Laurence Tandoh, a student of the University of Ghana of several thousands of cedis.

According to the police, the complainant in the case in the month of June was in dire need of money and was introduced to a certain Mallam Ode dollars.

Both kept interacting on phone fashioning out modalities until he was instructed to travel to Tamale where some rituals could be performed at a popular shrine before he could lay claim to the huge sums of money he was looking for.

According to the complainant, on June 25, he travelled from Accra to Tamale and on arrival was picked up by the suspect on a motorbike to the shrine around Sagnarigu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.

Mr Tandoh told police that the said Ode Dollars said he could double money for him and demanded that the necessary processes commenced for that purpose, but asked him to deposit Ghc6000 in the interim.

The victim was asked to travel back to Accra and return a week later when all the rituals mandated to make him rich had duly been performed but while away, he paid monies to the fraudster who kept giving one reason or the other in justification of cash demanded.

Per the agreement between both parties, the victim was expected to return to Tamale a week later to unmask his fortune of wealth, but the suspect after luring him into paying huge sums of money to him kept advancing flimsy excuses why he could not come.

He instead called him to ask for an additional Ghc4000 to purify the bundles of money he had charmed for him which the victim readily obliged and communication between them ceased thereafter.

All efforts to reach the suspect proved futile, giving credence to the suspicion that the said Malllam was a fraudster.

The victim was therefore compelled to officially lodge a complaint with the Tamale Police leading to the arrest of the suspect provisionally being charged for defrauding by false pretences.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to arrest his accomplices believed to be on the run.
