Saltpond, Nov. 3, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES), has directed all teachers on government payroll who have not engaged their services in the public schools, to do so with immediate effect or forfeit their salaries.
Miss Victoria Regina Longdon, the Twifu-Hemang-Lower Denkyira District Director of Education, made this known at a School Performance Appraisal meeting at Saltpond.
Miss Longdon, who is also a member of the Mfantseman District Education Oversight committee, was reacting to complaints from heads of the public schools about the shortage of teachers. Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, the Mfantsiman District Chief Executive said the District Assembly would provide toilet facilities to schools without the facility.
He said the Assembly would reward schools that scored 100 per cent passes in Basic Education and Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr. Quainoo-Arthur expressed disappointment that the District dropped from the 79th position of the national BECE appraisal list in 2003 to the 84th position this year.
Mrs. Matilda Bannerman-Mensah, the District Director of Education for Mfantseman, pledged her support to promote teaching and learning in the District.
