The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a national harmonised prospectus for students due to begin Senior High School (SHS) in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The document applies to both boarding and day students and is intended to help parents, guardians and prospective students prepare for enrolment before school placements are completed.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 3 September 2026, GES said families making arrangements for SHS admission should study the prospectus and obtain the required items in good time. The statement was signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi.
GES also instructed schools and other stakeholders to follow the requirements set out in the prospectus strictly. The Service said compliance would support a smooth and standardised admission process across the country.
The national document has been released ahead of school placements to provide a common guide for parents and students. It sets out the essential items needed by new students and is designed to ensure that freshers are properly prepared when they report to their schools.
The prospectus covers the requirements for students entering both boarding and day schools. Parents and guardians are therefore expected to consult the document according to the type of placement their ward receives.
GES urged members of the public to take note of the release and make the necessary preparations for the new academic year. Its guidance is aimed at avoiding uncertainty during enrolment and ensuring that students arrive with the items required by their schools.
Schools have also been directed to adhere to the harmonised requirements rather than applying inconsistent arrangements during the admissions process. GES said this would help create a uniform approach for families completing enrolment across the country.
The Service’s announcement comes as parents and students prepare for the next stage of the SHS admissions process. Reviewing the prospectus in advance will allow families to identify and acquire the items listed for their wards before the start of the academic year.
Parents and guardians are expected to obtain the items specified in the released prospectus for their children or wards. The Ghana Education Service has asked the public to prepare accordingly and to take the requirements into account when making arrangements for admission.
The national harmonised prospectus is consequently being presented as the reference document for the 2026/2027 SHS intake, covering both boarding and day placements and setting out the preparation expected of incoming students.
