German Foreign Minister visits Ghana

Accra, Aug. 1, GNA – German Federal Foreign Minister, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, arrives in Accra on Thursday for a two-day visit during which he will meet President John Agyekum Kufuor. Dr Steinmeir, who is on a two-nation West African tour that will also take him to Nigeria, would meet his counterpart, Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD.

A statement issued by the German Embassy said discussions would focus on the bilateral relationship between Ghana and Germany and the political and security situation in Africa, such as the situation in the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur. It said he would also meet with scholarship holders of the German Academic Exchange Service and visit the Goethe Institute Accra. The statement said the trip emphasised Germany’s political, economic and cultural interest in West Africa. Parliamentarians and cultural delegation would accompany him.
