Accra, Oct. 11, GNA – The Archbishop of Cape Coast, His Eminence Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson is representing Ghana at the Sixth German-African meeting of Bishops currently, taking place in Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
The meeting, which started on Monday, has attracted Bishops from Germany and Africa, who are focusing on dialogue with the Islamic faith. Among the participants are several high-ranking Bishops from Germany, including Bishop Franz Kamphus of Limburg, who is also presiding over the German Bishop Conference, a release issued by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany said on Monday.
Nigerian Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, who presides over SECAM, the African Bishop Conference located in Accra and other Bishops from Nigeria, Congo, Senegal, Central African Republic, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Chad, and Zambia are attending the meeting.
The German-African Meetings of Bishops dates back to 1982 when Bishops from Germany and Africa gathered for the first time in Maria Laach, Germany.
Further meetings were held in 1986 in Kinshasa; 1989 in Mainz; 1993 in Yaounde and 1998 in Durban.
