Gentlemen Club donates equipment to Winneba Municipal Hospital

Winneba (C/R), May 10, GNA – A New York-based Ghanaian organized society dubbed; “Ghanaian Gentlemen Club”, has donated medical equipment valued at GH¢4,000.00 to the Winneba Municipal Hospital at a ceremony at Winneba. The items include a quantity of assorted surgical instruments, medical books, ten specially-designed mattresses and some intravenous infusion tubes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Richard Adjei, Chairman of the Club, said that the equipment was meant to supplement government’s efforts at improving the health requirements of the people. He expressed optimism that, the donation will help accelerate the health delivery operation of the hospital.

He commended Mr. Robert K. Ghunney, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu, and Mr. Kwesi Esseku, Presiding Member of the Awutu/Senya District Assembly, formerly responsible for the two administrative setups for being instrumental in the presentation of the equipment to the Effutu Municipal Hospital. According to Mr Adjei, the 75-member Ghanaian club has made the mobilization and presentation of such vital health delivery equipment a three-yearly affair to health facilities operating in communities which fall within the jurisdiction of administrative areas where members of the club come from.

This, the Club Chairman further stated, was however done on rotation basis.

Mr Anthony K. Obeng, the Municipal Hospital Administrator, who received the items on behalf of the authorities, thanked the donors for their humanitarian feelings for their brothers and sisters at home, and hoped they would extend more of such useful assistance to the facility periodically. Mr Esseku, on his part expressed the hope that, other formidable social groups outside the country and individuals who have the means would take a cue from the performance of Ghanaian Gentlemen Club in the USA.

According to Mr. Esseku the provision of the equipment was jointly organised by him and the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu, Mr Robert K. Ghunney when they met members of the Ghanaian Gentlemen Club in the US in 2007. This was when Mr. Ghunney and Mr Esseku visited the United States of America to solicit for investments for the then Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

Among those present were, Mr M.K. Quayson, Municipal Coordinating Director, who stood in for the Municipal Chief Executive-nominatee, Nii Ephraim and Madam Esther Desewu, a Senior Nursing Sister in-charge of theatre.
