Accra, July 1, GNA – The General Assembly of the Old Vandals to commemorate the 2011 Homecoming opened at the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, on Friday.
Mr Africanus Owusu-Ansah, Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority who performed the ceremony called for the revival of the actual concept of 93Vandalism”.
He noted that the younger generation of Vandals (students of Commonwealth Hall) had completely lost the actual concepts and this was gradually bringing down the reputation of the Hall.
“Behaviours such as indecent dressing, nudity and singing of profane songs were restricted to the walls of the Hall,” he said. The 2011 Homecoming is on theme: 93Do we want to Restore Our Heritage in a New Era?”
He advised young Vandals to position themselves well to be accepted in the job market.
Alhaji Razak El-Alawa, President of Old Vandals Association, said the event was to maintain the spirit of togetherness for the development of the Hall.
He said the Hall was still the leading alumni association in the country and therefore called on all the Old Vandals to come together to help the Hall.
Alhaji El-Alawa commended the legal team of the Hall in their efforts to ensure that the place was not disintegrated.
Professor Joe Armah, Hall Master, pledged his commitment to ensure discipline among students to retain and maintain the reputation of the Hall.
