A CONTEMPORARY art gallery is to display a range of work from Ghana after securing funding from a new cultural diversity scheme.
Oriel Mostyn in Llandudno was the only venue in Wales to receive cash from the Arts Council of Wales under its new initiative, a sum of ?6,800.
This will fund the Kumasi Junction exhibition, showing how the street painters in Asante, Kumasi, have influenced art students and vice versa.
The exhibition will be opened on September 13 by the High Commissioner of Ghana.
Meanwhile, the gallery is celebrating its success in two major awards.
Oriel Mostyn’s vibrant publicity brochures have been short-listed for the Welsh Language Board’s Bilingual Design Awards.
The distinctive and eye-catching brochures, which were designed jointly with View Design of Llandudno, are being considered under the Promotion category. The winners will be announced on Thursday.
The gallery has also had one of its exhibition catalogues nominated for the newly-introduced Art Newspaper?AXA Art Exhibition Catalogue Award. The winner of the ?5,000 prizewill be announced in October.
The gallery’s book on Carmarthenshire-based artist Craig Wood has been nominated for the award.
Gallery director, Martin Barlow, said, “Our motivation is our belief that we make a leading contribution to developing the arts and culture in Wales and the award and nominations are a great endorsement of this.”
