Galamsey operator convicted for stealing

A 28 year-old galamsey operator, James Ayendado has been fined GH¢ 240 by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing a bundle of felt valued GH¢ 500.24 from Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL)’s Tarkwa Mine.

The court also sentenced the accused to a day’s imprisonment.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr. Obeng Asante, that the complainants are security officers of the Mine, while the accused lived at Brahabebome, a suburb of Tarkwa.

According to the Prosecution, on March 24, at about 2030 hours, the complainants were patrolling within the company’s concession but on reaching South Agglo area, the security officers saw the accused carrying a bundle of felt belonging to GGL, Tarkwa Mine.

Inspector Amponsah said the accused, on seeing the security officers, dumped the bundle of felt and quickly took to his heels but he was apprehended by the officers.

He said the accused was handed over to the Police and after investigation the accused was charge with the offence.
