The Ghana Armed Forces has been rated poorly in the latest corruption survey conducted by the anti-graft agency, Transparency International.
The security service was rated ‘D’ in a report outdoored in Accra Tuesday. The survey looked at the overall transparency in the military with emphasis on risk of defense corruption. It also considered the political, financial and operational risks in the military service.
Speaking at the launch of the report, a senior adviser at the Transparency International, Sir Stewart Eldon said Ghana found itself in the same ranking as Kenya and South Africa.
“Ghana finds itself in the same category as Kenya and South Africa but performs better than Nigeria, which is placed in a very high corruption risk.
“Ghana performs strongest in the areas of political personal risks in which it was rated in band D. The scores are weakest in band ‘D’ for finance, operations and procurement. But there is some existing good practice that Ghana should be able to build on to improve on its systems without much difficulties,” he explained.
