GAF warns of recruitment scam

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned the public against a recruitment scam being done through social media, on its behalf.

In a disclaimer, the GAF said it has monitored the scam on social media and some networks, especially WhatsApp, purporting that the military has commenced a recruitment exercise for 2015/2016.

“The fake advertisement, which has been coined out of an earlier one in January 2015 states: “THE GHANA ARMED FORCES RECRUITMENTS 2015/2016 IS HERE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS: By AMx free/In News/January 27, 2015.”

“GAF wishes to state categorically that it has NOT yet embarked on any recruitment drive. Additionally, GAF wishes to caution the general public that it does not advertise recruitment exercises on social media, but only through the national dailies and the GAF website.

“GAF, therefore, strongly advises the general public not to succumb to this scam. It is a fraudulent act meant to swindle unsuspecting people of large sums of money under the pretext of recruiting them into GAF,” the statement signed by Lieutenant Commander MA LARBI, Deputy Director (Information and Press Relations) for the Director of Public Relations, Col Agrrey Quarshie, warned.

The GAF also said it “does not conduct recruitment exercises through intermediaries, agents or middlemen and also GAF does not demand payment from persons to be recruited.”

“Though GAF is investigating the matter, the general public is advised to be vigilant and desist from paying monies to any person or persons but rather report those engaged in the fraudulent acts to the nearest military installation or Police Station,” describing the advertisements as fake.
