A scholarship scheme aimed at needy children in the inner city and rural Ga and Dangme areas is to be launched during the forthcoming 2006 GaDangme Congress to be held in Accra starting 16 August 2006. [Details of the Congress can be obtained at] http://groups.msn.com/2006GaDangmeCongress/welcome.msnw

The scheme, to be called GaDangme Heritage Scholarship Scheme, is aimed at providing financial support for needy children, and children who have dropped out of basic education or children whose parents are unable to support them to receive basic education.

The scheme is to be administered on behalf of GaDangme Heritage by Believers Youth Forum (BYF), a charitable organisation based in Accra, which provides educational support and remedial classes for drop-out children in selected areas of Ghana.

GaDangme Heritage, in collaboration with GaDangme lecturers at the University of Education at Winneba, has also established the GaDangme Heritage Literary Award, which promotes the teaching of Ga and Dangme languages in the GaDangme Traditional areas. Other activities of the organisation include working with Okwenya JSS and Teshie AMA 4 JSS as institutions with ongoing educational needs.

GaDangme Heritage is a worldwide organisation and the membership currently reside in Ghana, UK, USA, Australia, Switzerland and Austria. Members conduct their activities mainly by telephone and the Internet.

Anyone interested in joining our efforts can contacted by email [email protected] or telephone the Secretary, Mr S Awuley Doku on 0044191 2531274 or visit their website www.gadangmeheritage.org
