Accra, Feb. 1, GNA – Nii Oblimpong Kojo Ababio, Jamestown Mantse, on Tuesday commended the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for embarking on programmes to make the capital city attractive.
He urged the city authorities not to relent in their efforts but be committed to their duties to make the city a better place to live in. Nii Ababio made the remarks when a delegation from the Ga Traditional Council paid a courtesy call on the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Alfred Vanderpuije.
He noted that the city needed a major rehabilitation exercise to maintain its original state, adding that the Council was ready to support the AMA in its objectives.
The James Town Mantse said the decongestion of areas around the railwa= y station was in the right direction since it would pave the way for the construction of rail lines and also create jobs. He thanked the Mayor for halting the shift system in first cycle schools in the city and also for donating a set of furniture for the Council’s office.
Mr Vanderpuije thanked the Council for recognizing the efforts of the AMA and pledging support for its activities. He said in order to achieve the Millennium City Modernization Project, all unauthorized structures in the capital city needed to be demolished to pave way for development projects.
Mr Vanderpuije noted that the abolition of the shift system, the decongestion exercise, as well as the sanitation programme were some major activities outlined by the Assembly to achieve its development agenda. On the shift system, he said 93Investing in the youth means education should be our topmost priority for children to have the best that education can offer.” Mr Vanderpuije urged the Council to educate residents on the need to register with the various waste collection agencies to clear the heaps of filth in their surroundings.
