Fund To Enhance Development At Effiakuma Suggested

Mr. Isaac Badu-Nkansah, Assemblyman for Effiakuma East Electoral area has suggested the institution of a development and sanitation fund for the area. He made the suggestion at the maiden general meeting of the electoral area at Effiakuma new site near Takoradi on Sunday in the Western Region.

Mr. Badu Nkansah said this has become necessary owing to the poor present communal spirit among the residents. He explained that the fund would be used to hire labourers for development and sanitation projects. He suggested that the people paid fixed monthly levy to the fund, which should be managed by a committee.

Ms. Abena Kwallah, a member of the council of elders of the electoral area, stressed the need to keep the area clean to prevent the outbreak of diseases. She said choked gutters and heaps of refuse would breed mosquitoes, which cause malaria. She advised residents to attend community meetings to find solutions to problems of area.

Mr. Ben Ephraim, an Environmental Health Officer at the Sekondi Sub-Metro Council reminded the meeting that people who absent themselves from communal labour without good reasons would be sanctioned.
