Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 25, GNA- Mr Patrick Atsu, Assistant Executive Officer of Dormaa District Assembly on Friday noted that the functional literacy programme has improved the knowledge and learning of adults.
The programme has greatly improved the economic well being of the people as it has encouraged them to engage in income generating ventures.
Mr Atsu was opening a 10-day workshop at Dormaa Ahenkro for 51 facilitators.
The workshop was organized by the District Office of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education to upgrade the knowledge of the participants in the performance of their duties. Mr Atsu said apart from learning how to read and write, the adults had also been actively engaged in income-generating ventures like soap making, oil palm extraction, bread making and farming.
The District has 10 supervisors, 200 facilitators and more than 4,000 adult learners, he said.
Mr Kwasi Aning-Mensah, District Coordinator of NFED commended the selflessness of the facilitators and urged them to ensure the success of the programme.
He appealed to the government to provide the facilitators with incentive packages like wax prints, cement, and bicycles to motivate them to work harder.
