Farmers at Ataase in the Adansi South District are fuming over what they say is the havoc being wreaked on their farms by Fulani herdsmen and their animals.
They claimed the nomads were making life miserable for them – ruining their crops.
Madam Elizabeth Asare, their spokesperson, said the herdsmen had also been threatening them and that many of her colleague women farmers “are unable to go their farms unaccompanied for fear of their lives”.
She has therefore appealed to the government to act decisively to rein in the destructive activities and the impunity of the Fulani.
The herdsmen and their cattle had become not just a nuisance but major security threat in the area, she added.
She expressed the fear that the situation, if allowed unchecked could have dire implication for food safety and overall agricultural production in the district.
Another farmer, Hannah Asante, recounted how the timely intervention of a group of young men saved her from being attacked by the Fulani for daring to ask them to stop their animals from feeding on her crops.
Opanin Robert Eshun alleged that he had twice been threatened with guns by the herdsmen.
