Fulani herdsman grabbed over gruesome murder

A Fulani herdsman has been arrested and detained by the police over the gruesome murder of a 70-year-old man, Aklika Kpodi, at Mantukwa near Agogo in the Asante-Akim North District.

Mohammadu Abubakari, 20, reportedly without provocation, drove a knife into the stomach of the deceased and spilled out his intestines.

Kpodi’s murder would only add to the tension and growing anger among the people in Agogo at the cruelty and atrocities of the alien herdsmen – raping women, killing and maiming, destroying food crop farms and water bodies.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told a news briefing that the incident happened on August 31.

The deceased, a fisherman was said to be returning after inspecting his fishing nets in the Afram River, when the suspect suddenly attacked and murdered him.

DCOP Boakye said Abubakari fled after the crime but was tracked down to Ananekrom and seized three days later, following a tip off.

He said the suspect had confessed to killing the deceased during interrogation and is being held at the Kumasi Central Police Station for further investigation.

He would be arraigned to answer for his crime as soon as the police concludes its investigation, he added.

DCOP Boakye encouraged people in Agogo to organize community policing teams to assist the police flush out the nomadic herdsmen, who had chosen to live outside the law.
