Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Feb 16, GNA – Fuel shortage has hit Dormaa-Ahenkro, affecting movement of agricultural produce and reducing the usual hustle and bustle of traders.
A survey by the GNA has shown that prices of the few food stuffs had shot up as traders from neighbouring villages could not cart their produce due to lack of means of transport.
Some of them GNA talked to appealed to the government to speed up the fuel deregulation process to curtail the hardships that the people were going through.
The two fuel stations in Dormaa Ahenkro were without petrol and diesel and the management of the Total Filling Station explained that the shortage was not their making.
“The public’s perception that fuel dealers have hoarded the commodity is not true. Some of us are yet to receive our consignments from Tema Oil Refinery (TOR),” Mr. William Kwasi Addo, the Managing Director of the Shell Station said.
He said the shortage had compelled him to ration fuel to the security agencies and health institutions to enable them to respond to emergencies.
Mr Addo said his station had deposited 293 million cedis with the TOR since January 7 but is yet to receive any consignment. He said the situation posed “a threat to the confidence that the public have in fuel stations in Dormaa.”
