French Embassy holds fair for graduate students

Accra, Feb. 17, GNA – The French Embassy, in collaboration with the University of Ghana on Tuesday held a French fair to encourage graduate students to pursue higher education in French under the French environment. According to Mr. Arnaud Dornon, Head of Co-operation and Cultural Affairs of the French Embassy in Ghana, the programme would afford young Ghanaian graduates the opportunity to enroll with the various universities in France.

At the programme launch at the University of Ghana campus, he said in the era of globalization, it was crucial for countries to collaborate

in order to tap each others knowledge and expertise to enhance their own development.

Mr Arnaud mentioned some of the partner institutions that were opened for the programme as the Parix XI University, Orsay, the French Institute for Advanced Mechanics (IFMA), Clermont-Ferrand, ESC Rennes School of Business, the Grenoble School of Management, International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering, West African School of Ethnics and political Science and the French Research Institute on Africa. He said a number of scholarship grants also existed for students who would want to pursue their Masters and PhD programmes in the year 2009 to 2010.

He said the French Embassy in collaboration with the UG Campus French had opened a resource centre on higher education studies in French and scholarship prorammes offered to Ghanaian students and urged students to enroll.

Prof. Eric Y. Danquah, Dean of International Programmes, said the offer was very welcoming in the sense that it would not only promote the speaking of the French language, but also afford the University the opportunity to embark on a number of exchange programmes with the various universities. 17 Feb. 09
