Freddie Blay rocks Ashanti

A leading contender for the First Vice Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has stormed various constituencies in the Ashanti Region where many NPP executives mobbed him.

The enthusiastic crowd described him as a unifier.

Mr. Freddie Blay, former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament during the previous Kufuor administration, was accorded a rousing reception, an indication of his endorsement by the party’s members.

Mr. Blay, after meeting constituency executives in the Brong Ahafo Region, visited Ejura Sekyedumase, Asante Mampong, Ejisu/Juaben, Obuasi, Bekwai and other places to interact with the constituents.

“In Bekwai, they were specific and told me that they are going to vote for me to become the First Vice Chairman and they think they need Freddie Blay. They think they need the face of Western Region,” the aspirant said in an interview.

During the tour, the central message of the former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament to the people was about reconciliation, tolerance and peace to make the NPP a formidable political grouping to wrestle power from the National Democratic Party (NDC) in 2016.

They urged Mr. Blay to continue to unite the rank and file of the main opposition party in the country.

“We are happy with your message, the message that we need to come together,” some of the executives noted.

According to him, even though factionalism cannot be completely eradicated in any elections or contests, people should be tolerant and cautious of actions that could create extreme divisions.

The aspirant implored the constituents to remain calm during and after the poll.

Mr. Blay also appealed to the winners to reach out to others so as to promote peace.

“We should come together, work together, forge links and let others join not only for the victory of the NPP but for the country as a whole,” he said.

The former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament appealed to the elated constituents to focus on preparations towards the 2016 elections, insisting that Ghanaians need the NPP to restore hope in the country.

Mr. Blay urged them to speak with one voice and go the extra mile to win the 2016 polls for the NPP to effectively develop the country.

“In regions like Western, Central and Volta, you must make special effort to get them included. In this country, we need to build alongside needs, alongside what we want for the country together,” he told the charged crowd.

The aspirant expressed his preparedness to work assiduously towards the success of the party when given the nod.

He accused the Mahama administration of mismanaging the country’s affairs and virtually running down every sector of the economy.

The NPP should not go along that way but they should make them know that Ghana can be developed economically, he said.
